How we rate HR software
Every HRTally score has a paper trail. Here is exactly how ratings are calculated, moderated, and updated.
Our principles
- Real users only. Every reviewer is verified through a work email or LinkedIn.
- No pay to rank. Vendors cannot buy scores, rankings, or awards.
- Negative reviews stay up. We never hide a genuine review because a vendor dislikes it.
- Context matters. We show company size, role, and usage length with every review.
The Tally Score
| Factor | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| User satisfaction | 40% | Overall ratings and likelihood to recommend |
| Fit for company size | 20% | Ratings from companies in each size band |
| Review recency and volume | 15% | Recent reviews count more than old ones |
| Implementation and support | 15% | Setup experience and support quality |
| Compliance coverage | 10% | Reviewer-reported compliance support |
Reviews older than 24 months count less. Categories need at least 25 verified reviews before a leaderboard is published.
Growth fit
Growth fit shows how reviewers say a product handled growth past their original size. It helps startups avoid tools they will outgrow quickly.
AI transparency label
Products with AI features receive an AI transparency label based on whether the vendor publishes bias audits, explains model use, lets customers turn AI off, and states whether customer data trains models.
Moderation
Our team reads every review before it is published. We reject reviews with conflicts of interest, copied text, incentives that break our guidelines, or details that suggest the reviewer has not used the product.
