What Deel is
Deel was founded in 2019 and grew quickly by solving a problem that remote work made urgent: how to hire and pay people anywhere in the world without setting up a company in every country. Its employer of record service employs workers on your behalf in countries where you have no entity, and its contractor management product handles agreements, invoices, and payments for independent contractors around the world.
Since then Deel has expanded into global payroll for companies with their own entities, a free and paid HRIS, a US PEO, immigration support, and device and IT services. The pitch is one platform for a global workforce, whether people are employees, EOR workers, or contractors.
For US companies, Deel is often the first tool they buy when a great candidate lives in Canada, Mexico, the UK, or India.
Who it fits, and who should look elsewhere
A strong match for
- US companies hiring their first employees or contractors outside the US.
- Distributed teams with workers in many countries.
- Companies managing large numbers of international contractors.
- Businesses planning to move from EOR to their own entities over time.
Probably not the right choice for
- Companies with employees only in the US and no plans to hire abroad.
- Organizations that need deep US-specific HR features like complex benefits or labor rules.
- Buyers who want the lowest possible cost for a single country where they already have an entity.
Fit by company size
| Segment | Headcount | Our read on fit |
|---|---|---|
| Startup | 1 to 50 employees | Built for this segment |
| Small business | 51 to 250 | Good fit |
| Mid-market | 251 to 1,000 | Good fit |
| Enterprise | 1,000+ | Not the main focus |

Where it stands out
Country coverage
Deel supports hiring in a large number of countries, through its own entities or partners.
Contractor workflows
Its contractor agreements, invoicing, and payments are widely used and easy for workers.
Speed
Companies can often hire in a new country within days instead of months.
Compliance resources
Country guides and local experts help explain employment rules.
What to check before you sign
- Entity versus partner. In some countries, Deel works through partners. Ask who legally employs your workers in each country you need.
- Cost at scale. Per-employee EOR fees add up. Model when owning an entity becomes cheaper.
- Currency and fees. Understand foreign exchange rates, payment fees, and deposits before you sign.
Pricing approach
Deel prices EOR and contractor services per worker per month, with published starting prices on its website and volume discounts by quote. Global payroll and the HRIS are priced separately. Watch for deposits, termination costs, and currency conversion.
Implementation and support
EOR hires can be onboarded quickly once contracts are approved. Global payroll for existing entities takes longer, since it requires local setup and data migration.
Is Deel right for you?
Deel fits companies whose hiring is increasingly international. Map your countries and compare EOR costs with setting up entities.
AI features
Deel has added AI assistance for compliance questions and HR tasks. For employment law questions, use AI answers as a starting point and confirm details with local experts.
Questions to ask in a Deel demo
- In each country we need, do you employ workers through your own entity or a partner?
- What is the total monthly cost for this employee in this country, including all employer costs?
- What deposit is required, and when is it returned?
- How do you handle terminations and what costs might we face?
- How do we move employees to our own entity later?
