Finance and legal job descriptions

Accounting, financial analysis, payroll, and paralegal roles. 4 free, ready-to-post templates with May 2025 BLS pay data, exempt status guidance, legal notes, interview questions, and a PDF.

Finance and legal hires handle money, confidential records, and deadlines that don't move. Candidates in these fields care about the systems you use, the size and complexity of the work, and whether you support professional credentials such as the CPA, CFA, or PayrollOrg certifications.

Classification is the main legal risk in this department. Degreed accountants and financial analysts often qualify for an exemption, while bookkeepers, payroll clerks, and paralegals usually don't, even when they're experienced and well paid. Each description below explains where the line sits and why.

Finance and legal hiring FAQ

Are paralegals exempt?
Generally no. DOL Fact Sheet 17D says paralegals usually don't qualify for the learned professional exemption because an advanced specialized degree isn't a standard entry requirement.
Do accountants need a CPA license?
Not to work as accountants. A CPA license is required for certain work, such as signing audit opinions, and is often preferred for senior roles.
What should a payroll job description include?
Headcount, number of states, pay frequency, payroll system, and whether the role includes benefits, garnishments, or year-end tax work.
