Technology job descriptions
Software engineering, data, and IT support roles. 3 free, ready-to-post templates with May 2025 BLS pay data, exempt status guidance, legal notes, interview questions, and a PDF.
Technical candidates are the most recruited people in the market, and they're quick to dismiss a posting that reads like a keyword list. They want to know what problem the team solves, which technologies really matter, how the team works, and what the role pays. A shorter description with those four things beats a long one without them.
The descriptions below also address the computer employee exemption, which has its own hourly pay test of $27.63 an hour, and the DOL's position that help desk and IT support work is usually nonexempt. Several states require pay ranges in postings, and a few set higher exemption thresholds for computer professionals.
