Warehouse and logistics job descriptions

Warehouse, forklift, trucking, and delivery roles. 4 free, ready-to-post templates with May 2025 BLS pay data, exempt status guidance, legal notes, interview questions, and a PDF.

Warehouse and transportation jobs have some of the highest early turnover in the economy, and much of it comes from new hires who didn't know what the job involved. Honest descriptions of lifting, temperature, shifts, and productivity expectations are the cheapest retention tool you have.

This department is also heavily regulated. The descriptions below cover OSHA's forklift training and evaluation rules, the federal ban on workers under 18 operating forklifts, warehouse quota disclosure laws in several states, CDL and DOT drug testing requirements, and the Motor Carrier Act overtime exemption and its small vehicle exception.

Warehouse and logistics hiring FAQ

Do warehouse job descriptions need to mention quotas?
In several states, including California, Washington, New York, Minnesota, Oregon, and Illinois, covered employers must give workers a written description of quotas. Mentioning them in the posting sets expectations early.
Can I hire 17 year olds for warehouse work?
Yes, for some tasks, but federal child labor rules ban workers under 18 from operating forklifts and other powered hoisting equipment.
Are delivery drivers exempt from overtime?
Drivers of vehicles of 10,000 pounds or less are generally owed overtime under the small vehicle exception to the Motor Carrier Act exemption.
